What happens when you are sharing airspace with the IDF?
The United Nations is stunned by the bold and direct stance on Israel that United States UN ambassador Nikki Haley holds. Nikki Haley the former governor of South Carolina was appointed to become the UN ambassador on January 20th, 2017 and was confirmed on the 24th of the same month.
Her role in the pro-Israel Trump administration has been one of vocal and active support for the lone middle eastern democratic state of Israel. Unlike her predecessor Samantha Power that abstained from the vote of condemnation of Israel during the US abstention on UN Resolution 2334, Haley has directly and on multiple occasions spoke on behalf of Israel, the most recent happened today when Nikki Haley vowed to “Never again do what we saw with resolution 2334 and make anyone question our support."
The seat on the security council gives Nikki Haley the power to vote against any action taken against Israel and instantly block it. This power resides among all members of the UN security council. The 5 permanent members being: China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States. With this support tensions in the middle east have risen as the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has begun to increase Israeli settlements in the west bank, the jointly controlled disputed region run by both the Israeli government and the Palestinian authority.
The issue that is at hand is that Nikki Haley is supporting a 2 state solution similarly to the position held by former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin who was shot and killed in Rabin square years ago for supporting a similar position. While at the same time allowing further settlements into areas that would be Palestinian if a 2 state solution were to be passed. It is this writer's position that if any peace is to occur the United States can not support one solution while actively damaging it by allowing counter-productive activities.
While the resolution to the Isreal-Palestinian conflict will take some time and the outcome is unknown, Nikki Haley has thrown up a flag and has a long battle in front of her.
