There is a haunting question about Going Green. Can any business earn a Green business certification, or it is only for the larger corporations? It has been correctly said that the environmental issue is a universal problem that requires universal participation. Christine Moscaritolo is a State Farm agent who decided to create a Green office. Admittedly, Ms. Moscaritolo operates a small but active office in a business that may not strike the average client as a Green occupation.
Christine worked with Heather Deschenes of Green Impact Solutions, Inc (http://greenimpactsolutions.com/) to complete a Green assessment and develop sufficient number of Green practices to earn the silver level Green business certification. Unlike a Green building that might cost tens of thousands of dollars to design, the concept of Green Practices focuses attention on the operations of the business which have often been neglected.
The insurance business is actually a good segway to discussion of heath and community impact. Certainly, as a person who is so vitally involved in the community including the health and well-being of her customers, Christine is now able to show that her commitment is not just about business. Going Green has become a leadership issue as seen as such companies as WalMart, Dell Computers, and Hewlett Packard. The triple bottom line of planet, people, and profits places a needed balance for even community-based businesses.
Going Green is a personal commitment to the environment that should easily translate into a business application as well. What the environmentally-committed person soon realizes is that the ability to be Green comes from installing many smaller Green practices that become a way of life and business. This State Farm office serves as an example for other area businesses to follow.
This Allentown, PA office employed paperless office solutions, energy saving practices, improvements of the indoor air quality, and active recycling projects as part of the 100 Green Points required to earn the GBL Green Business Certification. Use of a live audit by Heather Deschenes means that all Green Practices were verified and credible.
The Green Business League is pleased to welcome the first State Farm office as a member of the GBL certification program. In the battle against Greenwashing, only a audited program can provide the transparency and honesty that merits the public's support of an authentically Green business.
