On Thursday night, the Miami Heat had a 63-45 lead against the Orlando Magic at the end of the second quarter. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, the two Heat superstars, had a
phenomenal first half, combining for 47 of the team's total points in
the first two quarters. Most Miami Heat fans probably thought that the Heat had another W coming their way. But the Magic were not ready to give up just yet.
In what ended up being the their second-largest comeback in franchise history, the Magic turned up the heat in the third quarter and fourth quarters. Just when it seemed that the Heat were running away with the game at 73-49 in the third quarter, the Magic went on a 40-9 run, turning the hefty deficit into a comfortable lead of 89-82. And Heat fans weren't the only ones left stunned by this feat.
"Well, that defies explanation,"said Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy.
Wade had one word for the turnaround: ""Mindboggling."
But the Heat, who are still just two games behind the Boston Celtics for the best record in the Eastern Conference, remain hopeful, despite the questionable and perhaps troubling loss.
"We need to keep on pushing through," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.
"The urgency is there," said Wade, who went 0-for-4 in the crucial fourth quarter. "Just got to finish it. We enjoy
these games. We play them hard. ... It's growing pains and it [stinks].
You look for the light at the end of the tunnel."
"We continue to get big leads and we continue to falter," said James, who missed a crucial 3-pointer in the final seconds of the game. "Hopefully we can figure it out soon."
