Cincinatti Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, will play for the Sporting Kansas City's reserve team on Monday.
The 33-year-old NFL wide receiver, who says that he preferred playing soccer in his younger days, began a 4-day tryout with the MLS team on Wednesday. Ochocinco admitted that, during his first day of trying out, he was a little rusty because he hadn't played since the 10th grade. But a spokesperson for the team said that Ochocinco appeared to be more comfortable on the second day of tryouts.
Ochocinco will play with the team's reserve lineup in a game against the Kansas City Brass, a minor league team.
Ochocinco has received a healthy dose of criticism for his decision to pursue soccer on a professional level. On Friday, Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley called Ochocinco a "clown" for trying out for the MLS. And earlier this week, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said, "What has he ever done that he's completed? What circle has he ever connected in any way?"
In response to Lewis's comment, Ochocinco tweeted, "Marvin Lewis won't say anything bad about Carson Palmer, stays kissing his [expletive], but disses @ochocinco daily #smh."
Ochocinco is a 6-time Pro Bowl selection and holds various Bengals franchise records, including most receiving yards in a season, most receiving yards all-time, most receptions, most touchdown receptions, most receiving yards in a game, and more.
