Free agent quarterback Chad Pennington tore his ACL recently while playing a game of pickup basketball.
The 34-year-old former New York Jets and Miami Dolphins quarterback will undergo surgery for the injury next week, according to his agent.
Pennington has twice been named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year, and he currently holds the highest career completion percentage in NFL history (66.0 percent) among QB's with at least 1,500 attempts.
Pennington, who has been stricken with injuries in the last few years, says he would like to play in the NFL again this season.
