Mother of Miami Heat Star Charged With Assault
Gloria James, the mother of NBA star LeBron James, was arrested in Miami on Thursday after she allegedly assaulted a hotel worker.
The Associated Press reports that James was arrested by Miami Beach police after she reportedly attacked a valet worker at the Fontainebleau Hotel because her car was taking too long to be delivered.
According to police, several witnesses corroborated valet worker Sorel Rockfeller's account of the alleged assault.
When police arrived at the hotel at around 4:45 AM ET, they found James with bloodshot eyes and with a strong smell of alcohol on her breath.
James was taken to the Miami Beach police department, where she was issued a promise to appear on charges of simple battery and disorderly conduct.
LeBron was asked about the incident after a team practice on Thursday. He said that he is being helped with the situation and called it a personal matter.
"You have to move forward," said James. "It is my life. Just try to not let things be a distraction. I have a job to do. It's a personal matter that's being taken care of. She's fine."
LeBron took about six questions from reporters about the incident before asking that the focus of the questions be shifted to basketball-related matters.
