Barry Bonds Convicted of Obstruction of Justice
Breaking News in Bonds Perjury Trial
On Wednesday, Barry Bonds was convicted of obstruction of justice. The jury in Bonds' perjury trial, however, failed to reach a verdict on three other counts that Bonds had lied to a federal grand jury when he said that he never knowingly took performance-enhancing drugs.
The verdict came after a 12-day trial and almost four full days of deliberation. The verdict may represent the conclusion of a steroid and perjury scandal that has put Bonds in the media spotlight for more than three years.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Bonds showed no emotion as the verdict was announced.
Immediately after the verdict was announced, Bonds' legal team requested that the guilty verdict be thrown out, but judge Susan Illston did not rule on the request. Instead, she set a May 20th date for a hearing in the case.
