The New York Knicks Keep Billups
NBA Veteran Chauncey Billups to Stay in New York
On Wednesday, the New York Knicks decided not to buy out the contract of point guard Chauncey Billups, which means that the NBA veteran will play with the Knicks for the 2011-2012 season.
The Knicks had until Friday to decide whether or not they would buy out the rest of Billup's contract for $3.7 million. They opted to keep Billups for his full $14.2 million salary.
"Chauncey, Amare [Stoudemire] and Carmelo [Anthony] are a great nucleus, as we continue to look to improve our team going into the offseason," said Knicks president of basketball operation Donnie Walsh. "Chauncey is an extremely talented and experienced point guard -- we are very happy to have him back."
Billups played 21 regular season games with the Knicks, averaging 17.5 points and 5.5 assists per game. Unfortunately, he missed three of the four Knicks' playoff games against the Boston Celtics, all of them losses, because of an injury he received in Game 1 of the series.
