Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who turned 24 on Sunday, extended his perfect season record to 38-0 by winning his first match at the French Open.
Djokovic defeated Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 in their first-round match.
Djokovic's win streak extends back to December and now includes 40 consecutive matches won. But Djokovic says he's not keeping track.
"I'm not counting," said the #2 player in the world. "I'm not trying to think about the streak that I have even though it's definitely something that makes me proud."
Djokovic is now just 5 match victories away from claiming the best opening season record of all time. The current record is held by John McEnroe, who went 42-0 to start a season in 1984.
Djokovic is also only 7 match victories away from claiming the longest win streak in the Open Era. The current record is held by Guillermo Villas, who won 46 consecutive matches in 1977.

American tennis player Mardy Fish doesn't want to be the player who jinxes Djokovic as he tries to break these impressive records.
"In the beginning -- I know him very well -- I'd kind of joke, 'Hey, let someone else win.' ... Now you almost stay away. It's almost like a pitcher going for a no-hitter," said Fish, the highest-seeded American.
"I don't want to say anything about it," added Fish. "I don't want to be the guy that says, 'Hey, by the way, you're 38-0,' or whatever he is. 'Don't lose.' I don't want to be that guy, and then have him lose."
Djokovic isn't trying to overthink the streak. Instead, he is playing match by match.
"I'm really trying to have the right mental approach to every match that I play, try to think about only winning, about (my) next opponent," said Djokovic. "This is what keeps me on the ground and keeps me very focused."
