Novak Djokovic Beats Del Potro; Extends Streak
Djokovic Extends Winning Streak to 42
Novak Djokovic extended his perfect season record to 40 on Saturday by defeating Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the French Open.
Djokovic and del Potro had each won a set on Friday before the match was suspended because of darkness.
When they met again the following day, the 24-year-old Serbian tennis star had very little problems putting the Argentinian away.
"I knew before we played this match that it's going to be a definitely difficult opponent to beat, a player who can equally play well on different surfaces," said Djokovic. "I was managing to control my game a little bit better today than I did yesterday. I think that resulted with the win."
Djokovic is currently the #2 ranked player in the world, just behind Rafael Nadal. If Djokovic reaches the finals at Roland Garros, he will take the #1 spot.
Nadal also advanced to the fourth round with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 win over Antonio Veic. Nadal was on point throughout the match, making only 18 unforced errors and breaking Veic nine times.

"I improved in every aspect of my game. I was more aggressive; I made fewer mistakes. I think that at the moment, I have more control of the ball," said Nadal. "I played very well on my forehand. I opened the court with my cross-court shots. I won points with my forehands. My backhand has improved quite a lot."
All eyes are on Nadal and Djokovic as they continue to advance through the French Open. Nadal has lost the event only once since 2005, and if he wins this year, he will tie Bjorn Borg's record for most French Open titles.
Djokovic, on the other hand, is very close to claiming both the best ever starting season record and the longest overall winning streak in the Open Era of tennis history. Furthermore, by winning the Grand Slam clay event, Djokovic would win his first French Open title and further exert his dominance of the sport by defeating Nadal, the undisputed King of Clay.
