Japanese game company, Nintendo, has aimed far beyond the traditional market for its Wii model. The Wii has not only been able to attract women and older aged players, but has far surpassed its financial goals.
Nintendo has seen its quarterly profits tremendously increase due to the popularity of its Wii game console. Within the last three months, Nintendo’s net profits have totaled 80.25 billion yen ($706 million USD). Just last year, in the same period, profits were 15.55 billion yen ($137 million USD).
While enjoying strong sales of its Nintendo DS console as well, the company has now raised its annual profits goal by 40%.
Nintendo now predicts net profits will rise to 245 billion yen ($2.2 billion USD) between now and March of 2008. The initial forecast was only set for 175 billion yen ($1.5 billion USD).
The company also mentioned that it sold 3.43 million Wii machines worldwide in the April-to-June quarter, meaning that it has sold 9.27 million consoles since its launch.
Nintendo is now expecting to sell 16.5 million Wii machines from now until March 2008, which is up from its initial forecast of 14 million.
Nintendo is really looking forward to holiday sales.
