T-Mobile unveiled their new T-Mobile G1, the first phone to run on Google Android, the open source mobile phone software platform, on Tuesday.
The T-Mobile G1, also known as the HTC Dream, will cost $179, presumably with a 2-year contract. The offering is T-Mobile exclusive, and the G1 will be SIM-locked to T-Mobile's network.
Plans will be add-ons for T-Mobile voice plans. For $25 per month, customers will get unlimited Web and Internet access with no prepaid SMS. For $35/month, T-Mobile will bundle some SMS minutes along with the unlimited Web/Internet.
The
The Android Market, the highly-anticipated platform, allows users to select from a variety of applications that best fit their lifestyles.
The T-Mobile G1 has full touch-screen functionality and a QWERTY keyboard, which makes it very effective for e-mailing, texting, calling and instant messaging communication. The phone allows users to connect to social networking sites, look for directions on Google Maps and upload pictures onto an image-sharing website.
T-Mobile and Google teamed up with manufacturer HTC to integrate the phone's form and function. Instant messaging will be enabled through Google Talk.
Customers can use the T-Mobile G1's 3G and Wi-Fi connection to upload and post pictures to their personal blog or download music and videos from their favorite web sites.
