Nearly 150 long-finned pilot whales that beached themselves on the Australian island of Tasmania have died.
The whales were discovered on Saturday in a remote coastal area of the island with many of them suffering serious injuries from jagged rocks in the area known as Sandy Cape.
About 30 whales that had been trapped in shallow reefs were led to open waters by rescuers using small boats.
Whales pass Tasmania as they migrate to and from Antarctic waters.
