Steve Jobs announced the second generation of the Apple iPhone is on its way and with a lower price and faster speed the company is hoping to make a significant crack into the worldwide smart phone market.
The newest iPhones will come in an 8GB 3G format that sells for $199 and a 16GB 3G format that will retail at $299. The original iPhone came equipped with 2G networks that proved too slow for many users and at an initial retail price of $599 many felt the device wasn’t worth the cost.
With the 3G now in place Jobs assured consumers that the newest iPhone would be three times as fast as its predecessor.
The iPhone should be in stores July 11 in 22 countries.
