NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander Discovers Ice

NASA’s Phoenix Mars lander has reportedly discovered ice after scientists confirmed that a bright material found on the Martian planet was frozen water.

Phoenix unearthed the material while digging trenches in the planet’s polar region. Pictures were taken of the substance and when the trench was revisited days later the material had disappeared, leaving scientists to conclude the substance had been ice.

The Phoenix Mars lander has been taking soil samples throughout the Martian region in hopes of proving the existence of water and more specifically a habitable climate in the polar region.

Scientists have long theorized that a layer of permafrost lay just below the surface, leaving many to believe that Mars could sustain life.

Several other trenches have been dug by the Phoenix lander which could also add further evidence to the initial findings.
